Lucky Laika

Lucky Laika!! Do you remember the post about Laika ?? The German shepherd who was thrown out of a moving car along with another dog who was never found. We asked for a long term foster carer, we knew it would be a big ask as she is a big dog. She has arthritis and heartworm, and is too old to be treated conventionally so she is receiving monthly treatment to keep everything under control. In the refuge she was on her own incase another dog whilst playing hurt her hips. So Laika was sad, having lived her life attached to a chain, we did find out her history, and now on her own in the refuge. A miracle has happened and a lovely lady has offered to be a foster carer for Laika. She now lives in Vilaflor, she has a lovely warm bed and her own home, she has regular short walks, and has clearly landed on her paws.

5 Long Years

GREAT NEWS, ADOPTED AFTER 5 LONG YEARS
There is a lid for every pot….eventually.

Mickey is a stunning looking animal, he loves all people…but hes big and he is powerful, and he is a breed that suffers massive prejudice. His kennel was the first one inside the shelter, he would meet and greet all visitors with that big tail going like a helicopter. Over the years he has had to watch his kennel mates come in after him and leave for their new homes and he was always left behind, nobody wanted him.

That all changed when a family started coming to the Dog Walking club and take him out regularly, his personality shone through and they took him home for a trial, where he behaved like a proper gentleman. They couldn’t believe such a great dog could have been passed over for so long.

He was brought back to the shelter last week to sign over his paperwork, the poor boy was distressed as he thought he was being brought back, but no, this was Mickeys GOTCHA DAY. We at Live Paws are over the moon that he has finally got the home he has always deserved, he will never again have to sadly watch others walk out the gate to their new lives. .

Moral of the story, please don’t overlook and swiftly walk past the, larger, older, less pretty dogs in a shelter, there could be a diamond in there, just waiting to shine through

Hidden Heros

Recently an event called Hidden Heros was held to highlight the good work done by so many on the island, with Sarah Wagstaff and Jane Dean being the finalists of the voting process, the prize of 2500 euros was to go to a charity chosen by the winner. Sarah’s choice was AECC cancer charity, and Jane had chosen Live PAWS as her nominated charity. The event was sponsored by Pre Loved By Esther, whos proprietor Esther Cushway is no stranger to raising money for worthy causes through innovative and spectacular events, this evening was one of those occasions. Live Paws volunteer Jennifer Ann Hume paid a visit to Pre Loved By Esther and picked up the donation, thank you all so much.

27,000 Thank Yous

What a hero. 27,000 euros raised and donated

Last year Live PAWS animal welfare supporters was extremely lucky to have one of the most popular artists on the island approach us and ask if he could be a fundraising volunteer. His name is Leslie Elvis Moore and he set himself the steep target of raising 10,000 euros.

Little did anyone know, how determined and dedicated he was, he quickly surpassed his target and by the end of 2019 had raised the unbelievable total of 27.000 euros.

Leslie asked his many venues he appeared at if he could collect donations and spare change at the end of his shows, most of the time, singing an extra set for free to boost donations. His lovely girlfriend Joy Barrett, and friends Angela Ward, Trish Owen and Kathy Mitchell assisted and helped him all year. The White Knights, Phil Francis Kitto and Phil O Neil often invited Leslie to join them during their shows to raise awareness and donations, so special thanks to them. Of course, our sincere thanks go to all the residents and visitors to this amazing island who have dug deep, continually encouraged Les and have donated their hard earned money to his cause.

The venues, bars and restaurants throughout the island have given Leslie amazing support in his mammoth task, not least Princess Di’s in the Patch where owners Joe and Dean Bull who are already avid animals welfare supporters, actively encouraged Leslie in his charity work all throughout last year, and continue to do so this year.

The animals of Tenerife, domestic pets, agricultural animals and wildlife have all been saved because of Leslie’s act of amazing generosity, many would not have survived.

Over 12,000 euros has been allocated and spent on animals that were not directly under Live Paws Care, the pets of people who have found themselves homeless or struggling financially, other animal welfare charities and the feral cat populations have all benefitted. New kennels have been built at Live PAWS shelter to enable them to offer refuge to more animals and there are exciting plans for the future.

Live PAWS are so grateful to this incredible man, who continues to raise money for us, his selflessness and dedication to Live PAWS and the animals we save and care for is an inspiration to everyone. Thank you Leslie Elvis Moore

Happy Christmas from Sangha San Miguel

Sangha San Miguel wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year. I would like to thank everyone who has supported the farm this year. A special thank you to Gillian Banks for her continued support with the children who visit the farm weekly, their progress and understanding of animal care has improved immeasurably. Also a special thanks to those of you who donated money and time to help Rayo the mule, a very expensive time for Sangha, and as you can see in the video, time, love and attention have helped him, but sadly his health continues to fail. Finally to the other organisations who work closely with us helping all animals particularly Live Paws, KittyCatz and Madat. Kindest Regards to you all, Mark.

Jessica is a mummy to 8

We have called this lovely lady Jessica. She was found in an abandoned banana plantation with her 2 six month old puppies who are now living with Marko and Roty.
When she was a week with us we found out that she was pregnant again and she has now given birth to 8 beautiful puppies.
Shes a dog with an exceptionally sweet and obedient personality. When they are old enough the puppies will be looking for homes and Jessica will be spayed and need a home also. Until then she is a wonderful mother.
