Last Week, we also sadly had to say goodbye to two very special members of the Live PAWS family. Little Poppy came into foster after her beloved owner sadly passed away.
At 15 years old, the refuge would never have been the right place for her, so Kimberley and her family opened their hearts and home, giving Poppy the love, comfort, and dignity she deserved for her final year. She became a cherished member of the family, surrounded by warmth until it was time to let her go peacefully.
We also said goodbye to Scruffy. Many of you will remember the heartbreaking footage of him living in truly appalling conditions in a tiny kennel on El Hierro.
Thankfully, his story didn’t end there. He found the love he had always deserved with Juleigh and John in the UK, who cared for him with unwavering devotion right until his final moments.
These are the endings we hope every senior dog can have. Not a kennel, but a sofa.
Not loneliness, but love. Not fear, but a family.
To Kimberley and her family, and to Juleigh, John and your family—thank you. Thank you for opening your hearts to our older generation, for seeing beyond their age, and for giving them the beautiful final golden chapter they so deserved.
We are sending you all so much love during this difficult time. Your kindness, compassion, and dedication to our dogs will never be forgotten.
Run free, Poppy and Scruffy. You were loved beyond measure, and you always will be.
