Margot . Born 16/05/2019 .When Margot first came to us in 2022, she was just three years old. She had been found wandering the streets, and despite our best efforts, her owner never came forward to claim her.
Margot was found to be filaria positive, and over the following year she underwent treatment, eventually achieving a negative result , a wonderful outcome.
During this time, however, Margot was struggling with kennel life. It simply wasn’t where she was meant to be. We made the decision to place her into foster care, and that is when her life changed for the better. Margot went to live with Iggy and his own dog, where she was finally given the freedom and home life she had been craving.
Not long afterwards, a lump on Margot’s ear was biopsied. Thankfully, it proved to be benign. It was removed and healed beautifully. At the same time, a small mammary tumour was discovered and removed.
For several years, Margot enjoyed the life she deserved, surrounded by the comforts of home and the companionship of Iggy and the other dogs.
Sadly, in 2026, things began to take a turn. Iggy noticed a lump on Margot’s abdomen, and a biopsy was taken. The devastating news was that she had stage 3 mammary cancer.
Unfortunately, the cancer is aggressive and has also affected her spine. A small spot has developed on her lungs too, meaning that, in effect, her cancer has returned and progressed.
Given Margot’s age and her previous medical history, our vets did not recommend surgery. Instead, she has been receiving medical treatment to keep her comfortable. At the moment, she has daily injections for pain relief, and thankfully she is still comfortable and enjoying her life. And that is what matters most.
We are incredibly fortunate that Iggy came into Margot’s life and gave her the one thing she wanted most: a home, freedom, love, and the chance to simply be herself.
Over her final two days, our beautiful girl deteriorated quickly, Mark made the hardest decision any of us ever has to make. It is never an easy one. But sometimes the greatest act of love is knowing when it is time to say goodbye, and Mark made that choice as he always does ,with nothing but Margot’s best interests at heart.
She deserved to leave this world peacefully, surrounded by love and free from suffering.
