Live PAWS at the finca, with some heartbreaking news. Our beloved Cacao is only 8 years old.
He came to us when he was just puppy, a quiet soul who never pushed himself forward and never truly had a place to call his own. Recently, we noticed he was struggling to eat, so we took him to the vet for what we thought would be a routine dental check and clean.
While under sedation, an X-ray revealed the devastating truth, cancer in his jaw, which has already caused significant damage. We were completely heartbroken.
Cacao has now moved to Mark’s finca, an extension of the refuge and the only place suited to give him the comfort he needs. When he arrived, he was greeted, as all newcomers are, by the resident cat.
Then something beautiful happened , he spotted Rigby, his old friend from the refuge who was his neighbour there for many years. His tail started to wag instantly.
He remembered him. That moment brought tears to our eyes, knowing he would not feel alone and would soon settle.
We don’t know how much time we have left with him. But we do know that Cacao will be surrounded by love and receive the very best care from Mark, Johanna, and Mauricio, under the watchful eye of Yaiza, our vet.
He is not in pain. With regular medication, he is still able to eat and enjoy his days.
And finally, despite everything, he has something he never had before, a place to call home. We will make sure the time he has left is filled with comfort, dignity, and love.
