This week we said goodbye to one of our own… our beautiful Cacao. Cacao joined Live PAWS back in 2020 as part of a pack of wild dogs.
He had never learned to trust people and, in those early days, anyone brave enough to put their fingers through the kennel fence would quickly receive a little nibble! But over the months and years, Cacao slowly discovered that not all humans were bad.
He began to trust, to ³engage, and to show us the wonderful dog hidden beneath his frightened exterior. We truly believed he was ready for a forever home.
Sadly, despite all our hopes, that family never came. Our cheeky boy never completely lost his mischievous streak either… every now and then he’d still sneak a playful nibble at Jade’s bottom, always keeping us laughing.
Earlier this year, Cacao was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer in his jaw. The vets gave him just two months.
We knew we couldn’t let his final weeks be spent in a kennel. So Cacao moved to Mark’s finca, where he was reunited with his old friend Rigby.
Together they ran freely, enjoyed the open space, and lived once again as part of a pack. It was everything we could have wished for him in his final chapter.
This week, Mark returned home and immediately knew something wasn’t right. He rushed Cacao straight to the vet.
While waiting, Mark checked his security cameras and discovered Cacao had suffered a seizure. After speaking with our vet and seeing just how advanced the cancer had become, the heartbreaking decision was made to let him go peacefully, free from pain.
Cacao, we’re so sorry we couldn’t give you the forever home we always dreamed of for you. But please know this…You were loved beyond words.
We loved your cheeky nibbles. We loved the wild youngster you once were.
And we loved the gentle, content soul you became in your final years. Thank you for trusting us.
Run free, beautiful boy. Chase the wind, find all the friends who’ve gone before you, and wait for us on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
